Quit Smoking

Singapore Health Promotion Board - I Quit Smoking

Quit Smoking with a Little Help from Technology

We applauded the new initiative undertook by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) Singapore to help smokers quit smoking.

HPB has roll-out a new mobile application that wanna-be-quitter can installed on their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad to help them track their progress. After creating an account and answering a series of multiple choice questions to determine their profile type, smokers can select 1 of 3 quitting methods. They are namely: Gradual Reduction, Delaying, and Cold Turkey.

Regardless of the preferred quitting method, success is contingent primarily on smokers’ self-discipline and determination to follow-through the program. This is fine for those with unshakable conviction but what about those whose resoluteness are somewhat lacking? What if the smoking habit is so ingrained and automatic that the wanna-be-quitter lights up without even consciously realizing it? If you belong to this latter group, there’s no need to despair as other effective options are available.

As the saying goes, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” In fact, we recommend 2 powerful alternatives for you to choose from.

Whether smoking is a means of socializing, or an unconscious habit that is hard to kick, Clinical Hypnotherapy (CH) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are 2 tested and proven methods that can help you quit smoking.

Unlike other conventional methods which hinge mainly on personal willpower, in CH & CBT, willpower is good to have but not an absolute prerequisite. With CH or CBT, you collaborate with a qualified therapist who will provide the necessary advice and support every step of the way. All you need is a belief in your ability to quit smoking.
